Labyrinth- I've loved this movie since I was a wee little one; Sara and Jareth are quite lovely.
Wanted to try a portrait in oils. I created 3-4 oil paintings of still life objects this summer but they still aren't "finished" and 2 didnt come out either. I think I will focus on Portraits for a while sintead. The figurative narrative still life series I was focusing on over the past months and early fall, is done now. I'm getting a little antsy with it and am ready to move on.
I've been trying to figure out what my upcoming plans should be art-wise. It's tough since when you're a freelancer you have to create your own schedule and routine, and projects- and hope sometime someone will be interested in purchasing work.
This was painted on top of another painting, on wood panel.
I don't want to overwork this, but it might need another hour or so of "finishing" work. But I won't "overwork" it either, promise.
I wanted to post it anyways since i'm so pleased with how it looks. I tried to make the expressions a tad more gentle than in the movie itself;
Photographed using my dad's really old digital camera, took several shots and pasted the two best parts together. Tricky stuff. And Also took a shot from the side, since that way there's no glare from the shiny galkyd and liquin paint medium I used.
(you get to see my messy art table too )
Will post a clearer pic if I get a better camera eventually.
Great job!
Oils are such an enjoyable medium... but also so bloody fiddly.
Myself, I'd say Jareth needs a little more finition, just a little more contrast in the top part of his face, and cheekbones. But the rest... the shimmering background, his cravat and jacket, and Sarah are very skillfully rendered--very good likeness of Jennifer there.
... seriously, the more I look at it, the more I find it very pretty indeed indeed.
Ah, Labyrinth love...
